After school care in Vancouver is available through licensed childcare centres, Vancouver Park Board community centre programs, and school based care run by third party providers. Options span homework support, academic enrichment, recreation, sports, and arts, running from the school bell into the early evening. The city is large enough that there is usually after school care near you, but demand at popular elementary schools is high and on site spaces often go by lottery or wait list. Starting with your own school and widening out from there is the usual approach.
Ask your school which provider runs the on site program and how spaces are allocated.
Check your closest community centre. Park Board after school programming is usually the most affordable option.
Register early. On site programs in popular catchments fill well before September.
Check the adult to child ratio. BC licensing sets 1:10 for school age programs.
